[08 Apr 2009|07:07pm]
This year is going by too quickly. Either myself or time needs to slow down. My watch did stop, but I don't think that's the same.

Stop! Grammar time! [05 Dec 2007|09:14pm]
Just in case you ever use MS Office's grammar check, keep this picture in mind.

I wonder what severity cans? It has to be anchovies. After all, anchovies sound gross, and "severity" doesn't exactly leave one with a warm, fuzzy feeling. So it probably has canning parties with other unfriendly words like "discord" and "depreciate," and they can anchovies...

Or are they telling me to write that the severity of the disease fires "double"? Poor "double." Getting canned by MS Office's grammar check. I thought he was doing a pretty good job, myself. Good ol' "double"... but he is always getting into trouble, they say. I guess it was bound to happen.

This brought out the nerdiness in me enough to merit putting up the Hammer "Grammar Time" icon, just so I could use it with this post. Which, if you look closely, the background is "netspeak," making it even more awesome.

* And yes, I know that's not the way to cite in a paper. But it's the way I begin citations all my papers. I have the actual citations on their little page, and I just put the number in till I am done and ready to purdy up all the citations. Works fine for me.

** And yes, I see the grammatical error in there that MS Word DIDN'T catch. Better go fix that!

*** Oh, by the way, as this post indicates, I'm still alive. I'll have to do a real post later... when I'm not extremely busy doing crap for finals.

They are making a movie of The Dark is Rising series! How awesome! First Lord of the Rings, then Narnia, now this! I've pretty much given up hope on The Last Unicorn movie, though. Pan's Labyrinth was great, too. It's awesome they're making so many fantasy movies lately, and I haven't been disappointed in them yet. Let's hope the trend continues with this one!!

Of course, I'm still waiting to hear from the college of Biology as to whether I got in (I did get into the university, but I don't know yet about the college). But yeah, right now I'm just working and hanging out. I'll write more later... but am not up to it right now.

Tolerance [22 Jan 2007|04:39pm]
Something that really annoys and bothers me is when someone belittles an entire group based on their opinions, and then preaches tolerance. The particular case in mind at the moment is a certain atheist who says all religious people are stupid for believing in something so outdated, when they have no "proof," yet in the same breath says she is enlightened and tolerant. Mockingly asks why God hasn't fixed all of our problems or made everyone into good people! I don't debate religion (always pointless - opinions are unlikely to change), and particularly not when asked in such a tone, so I didn't get into that, but all I have to say about what this girl has said is this:

Yeah, sure, honey... I suppose if your idea of tolerance is "You better tolerate all of my insults about your most cherished beliefs," then yeah, you're practicing tolerance very well. Such a good person, indeed!

Sorry, but I call it pretentious, intolerant, and ignorant. Not agreeing with someone else's beliefs does not mean you have to mock and belittle them. And mocking/belittling something you disagree with does NOT make you look or sound more intelligent. It makes you quite the opposite, in my opinion, as the intelligent people I've always known can have a conversation in which the opinions differed greatly, and still be respectful. In my opinion, that is enlightenment. :-)

Edited to add: This is not about any of my friends! I chose to omit names because it's a small, small world! :-)

I can't believe the Saints aren't going to the Super Bowl. I am really heartbroken. But, I am glad they had a great season. Hopefully next year will be even better.

Edit: Well, football has broken my heart for the last time this season. :-( I'm not going to bother with the Super Bowl this year. Bears vs. Colts, booooorrrrrring! I hope the Colts win, cuz they aren't the ones who beat the Saints. Saying that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth since I love the Pats, too, and wanted them to win today's game. :-(

YES! YAY! YAY! WOO-HOOO!!!! [17 Jan 2007|09:19pm]
Yes, I am excited! And you won't be surprised, once you read the reason here:

HBO has acquired the rights to turn George R.R. Martin's bestselling fantasy series "A Song of Fire & Ice" into a dramatic series to be written and exec produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

"Fire" is the first TV project for Benioff ("Troy") and Weiss ("Halo") and will shoot in Europe or New Zealand. Benioff and Weiss will write every episode of each season together save one, which the author (a former TV writer) will script.

The series will begin with the 1996 first book, "A Game of Thrones," and the intention is for each novel (they average 1,000 pages each) to fuel a season's worth of episodes. Martin has nearly finished the fifth installment, but won't complete the seven-book cycle until 2011.

The author will co-exec produce the series along with Management 360's Guymon Casady and Created By's Vince Gerardis.

Martin's series has drawn comparisons to J.R.R. Tolkien, because both are period epics set in imagined lands. But Martin has eschewed Tolkien's good-vs.-evil theme in favor of flawed characters from seven noble families.

The book has a decidedly adult bent, with sex and violence comparable to series like "Rome" and "Deadwood."

"They tried for 50 years to make 'Lord of the Rings' as one movie before Peter Jackson found success making three," Martin said. "My books are bigger and more complicated, and would require 18 movies. Otherwise, you'd have to choose one or two characters."

Aside from writing the most recent draft of "Halo," Weiss recently adapted the William Gibson novel "Pattern Recognition" for WB and director Peter Weir.

Benioff and Weiss were repped by CAA and Management 360.

I can't believe it! They are making A Song of Ice and Fire into a tv series on HBO! I don't think I get HBO, and I've certainly never watched anything from it, but OH MY GOODNESS! I never thought it could happen, and it will! Yay!!!!! :-D

PLEASE, HBO GUYS, DON'T SCREW THIS SERIES UP!

My strangest desire for your roses of desire will enhance our cosmic forgotten dreams.

My inescapable madness with your sticky charm will expand to our spiritual forgotten dreams.

My luscious licking of your sticky charm will overhaul overwhelming heartfelt dreaming.

My awesome craving for your newfound love will beautify heated raging rivers of romance.

My haphazard reverberating of your eternal love will uplift wild lustful longing.

My exciting reverberating of your big blossoms will rush us toward our future of luscious longing.

My dearest hastening toward your cuddling will escalate the beginning of our eternal love.

My electrifying exploding near your lust demons will amplify all hope for lust lives.

A love poem [11 Jun 2006|04:12pm]
[ mood | amused ]

Your skin glows like the mango, blossoms purple as the magnolia in the purest hope of spring.
My heart follows your zydeco voice and leaps like a snake at the whisper of your name.
The evening floats in on a great pelican wing.
I am comforted by your skirt that I carry into the twilight of housebeams and hold next to my ear.
I am filled with hope that I may dry your tears of vomit.
As my spleen falls from my sock, it reminds me of your book.
In the quiet, I listen for the last scream of the day.
My heated aorta leaps to my sweatshirt. I wait in the moonlight for your secret horse so that we may skip as one, aorta to aorta, in search of the magnificient blue and mystical boogers of love.

Madlibs + poetry = very, very funny

Lesson learned - If you don't have the skill to write your own love poem, DON'T let a computer do it!!

[11 Jun 2006|03:29pm]
The first time I laid my eyes on you I knew
We'd spend this life side by side
I still feel the same though you're so far away
I swear that you'll always be mine

Forever love
I promise you
Someday we'll be together
Forever love
I won't give up
No matter what
I'll be waiting for you
Forever love

Minutes and hours and years may go by
But my heart knows nothing of time
So don't cry just keep me right here in your dreams
And hold on to these words of mine

Forever love
I promise you
Someday we'll be together
Forever love
I won't give up
No matter what
I'll be waiting for you
Forever love

Love is the road to our destiny
Nothing can change what is meant to be
Forever love

Oh, I won't give up
No matter what
I'll be waiting for you
Forever love
Forever love
Forever love

What a moron [28 Mar 2006|04:34pm]
Today, when I got up to give my ridiculously simple speech, I not only forgot everything I was to talk about (which was on the notecard right in front of me, plus um, the speech was about ME), I also actually and literally forgot how to think and talk. I could not get one word out, and stood there for what felt like minutes (though I'm sure it was only 10, 15 seconds at the most) and just could not say one word.

Yeah........
